Happy belated birthday, Ward Bond.

Ward Bond was born in Benkelman, Nebraska on April 9, 1903. The family lived in Benkelman until 1919 when they moved to Denver. Bond graduated from high school in Denver. He attended USC and played football on the same team as John Wayne. They became lifelong friends.

Bond was a character actor who appeared in over 270 movies and television shows according to the Internet Movie Database. He was in It's a Wonderful Life with Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed. He was in a lot of westerns and often played a gruff, but kind character. Other classic films he was in included classics such as Fort Apache, Drums along the Mohawk, It Happened One Night, Sargent York, The Maltese Falcon, and Gone with the Wind.

Bond died at age 57 of a massive heart attack. We can only imagine how many more movies he would have been in if he hadn't died so prematurely.
